Scholarship Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Social Services

Scholarship Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Services. The degree programme trains students for various tasks in the social service field in Finland and in international contexts.

A multicultural study group that studies in English offers an opportunity to interact and learn in a real international learning environment.

The programme’s specific focus is on community development work, emphasising people’s participation and empowerment, identification, and the fight against different forms of discrimination in societies.

The degree programme aims to train competent professionals to work for socially sustainable communities in Finland and abroad.

Students learn social work and policy issues from Finnish, European and global perspectives. They gain skills to conduct social analysis and action, implement participatory research, and analyse local conditions with wider economic and social changes.

This degree programme cannot qualify as a Bachelor of Social Services in early childhood education (varhaiskasvatuksen sosionomi).

Tuition fees

Universities of applied sciences and universities in Finland charge Bachelor’s and Master’s level students a tuition fee for studying in languages other than Finnish or Swedish from 1.8.2017 onwards. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens are not charged the fee*.

The tuition fee at Diak is €4000 per academic year in the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Social Services, €5000 per academic year in the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Health Care, Nursing, and €6000 per academic year for the Master’s degree programmes.

* If individuals or their family members hold similar rights as EU citizens, they will not be charged the tuition fee. This exemption will also apply to individuals with an EU Blue Card as stated in the Aliens Act, a continuous or permanent residence permit or a long-term resident’s EC residence permit.

You are exempted from paying tuition fees if you have one of the documents mentioned below:

• Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland
• EU Blue Card
• Continuous residence permit card in Finland, Type A permit. NB: A continuous residence permit (A-type permit) for studying in Finland (from 15 April 2022 onwards) doesn’t exempt students from paying tuition fees.
• EU Family Member’s Residence Card in Finland
• Permanent residence permit card in Finland, Type P permit
• EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence permit card in Finland (Type P-EU)

The first-year tuition fee must be paid by the date for accepting the study place. Further details will be given in the letter of acceptance.

Scholarships

Diak does not grant scholarships for the first academic year.

Non-EU/EEA students who pay tuition may apply for a scholarship at the end of each academic year. Scholarships are based on study performance. All students who have obtained 55 credits or more during the previous academic year may be granted a scholarship. The scholarship covers 50% of one academic year’s tuition fee.

There are no full scholarships. Hence the students are required to cover their living expenses themselves.

Entrance examination

Admission to the bachelor’s degree Programme in Social Services is based on the International UAS exam, completed online. The examination has two phases: the first phase is a written examination, and the second phase is a group interview.
